It can help to talk in confidence to a skilled professional, and the Brunswick Centre can offer counselling sessions with a qualified and experienced counsellor free of charge.

Who We Are
The Brunswick Centre was the name given to Calderdale HIV/AIDS Link (CHAL) in 2002 when it extended it's HIV services into Kirklees.

HIV Testing Dates - October

Are you PrEPared?

Health and Wellbeing

Nutrition and Dietetic Support
We offer a nutrition and dietetic service at the Brunswick Centre for anyone living with HIV. Our registered dietitian has years of experience of working with adults, children and families living with HIV both in the UK and South Africa.

Benefits and Welfare Rights
We have a dedicated specialist worker, Chris Saxon, who provides welfare benefits advice and support to residents of Kirklees and Calderdale who are living with HIV and to their carers. Find out more.

Hardship Support
The HIV Support team are aware of the financial hardship and poverty many people with HIV face and how this can have a detrimental effect on health and wellbeing.

The yOUTh Service works across all of Calderdale and Kirklees, providing support to LGBTQ+ young people, their parents and carers.

Trans Group
Trans Group workshops are a 6-week workshop for parents and carers of young people under 25 who identify as transgender, non-binary or genderfluid.

We have a dedicated family support worker, Caz Morreale, who will offer support to LGBTQ+ young people, their parents, carers and siblings.

The 'What's In A Name?' campaign aims to offer information and guidance on how to respond when a young person informs you that they wish to be known as a different name and/or pronouns.

Chemsex is defined by the use of three specific drugs (“chems”) in a sexual context.

LGBTQ+ Cancer Support
A cancer diagnosis is stressful, especially for LGBTQ+ individuals who may encounter discrimination and other barriers during treatment.

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
PEP is a course of HIV medication that you take if you have been at risk of HIV infection within 72 hours (three days). It may prevent you from becoming infected with HIV.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
PrEP is medication that you take to stop yourself from getting HIV.

Condoms
Condoms are the best way of preventing the spread of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. They can also protect against unwanted pregnancy.

Outreach
Our HIV Prevention team work actively in cruising grounds across Calderdale and Kirklees, providing condoms and lube, information and support around HIV, sexual health and any other issues that may affect wellbeing.

Formula Milk Programme
Formula milk is the recommended alternative for HIV positive mothers and the Brunswick Centre will supply, free of charge.

Queer as Smoke Calderdale
Queer as Smoke Calderdale is a proud partnership between Yorkshire Smokefree service and The Brunswick Centre, supported by Calderdale Council Public Health. Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. Help and support is available.
