Volunteers' Week 2026

Volunteers Week 2026 WB

Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.

As part of Volunteers' Week, we spoke to one of our incredible yOUTh service volunteers, Katie (She / Her / They) about their time volunteering at Brunswick!

How long have you been a volunteer with Brunswick?

2 years (ish)!

What inspired you to become a volunteer here?

I ended up reading Facebook / news site comments during Pride month. Naturally, they were all filled with vitriol and untruths. Some of them were spreading dangerous lies / allegations about LGTBQ+ people. I couldn't help but think how awful it must be to young trans person and have to see that.

If I'm just an extra grown up around so that more young Queer people can meet in a safe space, then it's worth a few hours a week.

What would you say to someone thinking about volunteering with Brunswick?

Do it! Teenagers are the funniest creatures on the planet.

What would you say volunteering has taught you about yourself?

I'm not as shy as I thought! I'm only one unwashed plate away from turning into my mother. Also, I'm really bad at teaching knitting!
