Turn the Corner: support to quit smoking in Kirklees and Calderdale

Stop Smoking April Banner

Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. The benefits start almost straight away, and over time quitting can improve your breathing, energy levels, mood, finances and overall wellbeing.

Around 70% of people who smoke say they want to quit, but many don't know where to start or what support is available. That's where the new Turn the Corner campaign comes in.

Stopping smoking doesn't have to be something you do alone. With the right support, it becomes much more manageable and far more likely to last. People are around three times more likely to quit successfully with help from a stop smoking service than by going cold turkey on their own.

Be there for the moments that matter

Smoking often becomes tied to stress, routine, social situations or difficult periods in life. That's why quitting is about much more than willpower. It's about finding the right support, the right tools and the right time to make a change.

Turn the Corner encourages people to take that next step and think about what really matters. Whether it's your health, your relationships, your future or simply feeling more in control, quitting can open the door to real, lasting change.

Stopping smoking is proven to improve physical and mental health, save money, strengthen relationships and help people live longer, healthier lives. It can also help people feel more confident and more in charge of their day-to-day.

Local support in Calderdale and Kirklees

If you live in Calderdale, Yorkshire Smokefree Calderdale is the local NHS stop smoking service. For those in Kirklees, the Kirklees Wellness Service is ready and able to help.

Together they've helped thousands of people quit and offer a wide range of free support, including personalised quit plans and nicotine replacement options. No judgement, no pressure. Just practical support that makes the process feel far less overwhelming.

Queer as Smoke

At Brunswick, this campaign connects closely with Queer as Smoke, part of our Well Proud programme.

Queer as Smoke raises awareness of stop smoking support in LGBTQ+ communities across Kirklees and Calderdale. It recognises that LGBTQ+ people can face additional pressures around mental health, stress, stigma and social environments where smoking may feel more common or normalised.

That's why inclusive, accessible support matters.

Queer as Smoke helps shine a light on stop smoking services that are welcoming and relevant to LGBTQ+ people. It's about making sure people know that support is out there, that it can be tailored to them, and that quitting isn't something they have to face alone.

We want to help more people across Kirklees and Calderdale take that first step towards better health.

You don't have to do it alone

Quitting smoking is rarely a straight line. Many people try more than once before it sticks. That's not failure. It means you're still moving forward.

Every attempt teaches you something. Every step counts.

This could be the moment you make a change.
