New LGBTQ+ Mental Health Campaign launched in Calderdale

This new campaign MIND YOUR HEAD is a joint project between the Brunswick Centre and Happy Valley Pride, funded via Calderdale Council’s small grants from West Yorkshire & Harrogate Health Care Partnership, it is an LGBTQ+ focussed suicide and self-harm prevention awareness campaign.

Here at the Brunswick Centre, we are delighted to be partnering with Happy Valley Pride for this vital campaign.

The campaign will target Gay, Bisexual and Trans young and middle-aged men, as well as the wider LGBTQ+ community, and will also incorporate issues resulting from lockdown and getting back to ‘normal’.

This supports the priority to eliminate suicide in groups disproportionally affected by poor emotional wellbeing, self-harm, and suicide (LGBT Health in Britain,2018 Stonewall, Study of LGBTQ People’s Experiences During the Pandemic, 2020, University College London & Sussex University).

The campaign launches on 6th September 2021 with an online hub www.happyvalleypride.co.uk/mind-your-head and aims to raise awareness around LGBTQ+ mental health, and provide access to local, regional, and national resources, along with hints and tips for wellbeing. There are also real-life stories that demonstrate the benefit of seeking help and much more.

There will be an online talk by Matthew Todd (former editor of Attitude Magazine, and author of the best-selling book on gay mental health – Straight Jacket) as part of the Happy Valley Pride Weekender – 10-12th September.

Further online events include a look at anxiety and better to understand and deal with it – 30thSeptember at 7.30 pm, and a guided hypnotherapy session on 14thOctober at 8 pm.

All these events are free online and more will be added so check out the website!
