HIV Prevention Service
The HIV Prevention team targets interventions at communities most at risk of HIV.
- Gay, Bisexual men and men who have sex with men who may not identify as gay or bisexual
- Black Africans
- other communities at increased risk including those working in the sex industry, substance users and people living in the UK from countries with high prevalence of HIV
Staff work to inform, empower and give support to individuals from these at-risk communities to prevent HIV transmission. Using a community development model, individuals are encouraged to be actively involved in the identification and definition of the needs of their own communities.
The team promote safer sex and ensure that individuals are effectively targeted and have access to the latest information about HIV and sexual health, and the resources to adopt safer sex practices. The team seeks to redress the health and social inequalities experienced by these target groups.
The Brunswick Centre is a Local Activation Partner (LAP) for HIV Prevention England (HPE) working together to reduce the incidence of HIV and the numbers with un-diagnosed HIV in Calderdale and Kirklees.
