HIV Testing and Sexual Health:
Testing for HIV is quick and easy; all it takes is a finger prick test!
Most people get HIV from someone who doesn't know they have it. If we get to know our HIV status, the chances of this happening are reduced.
Many people with sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have no symptoms. STIs are caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites that can be passed from one person to another during sex or intimate contact.
Most STIs are passed between sexual partners through unprotected oral, vaginal or anal sex - especially if you don’t use a condom. It is a good idea to get tested, especially if you have recently changed partners.
Anyone can catch Monkeypox. Currently most cases have been in men who are gay, bisexual or have sex with other men, so it's particularly important to be aware of the symptoms if you're in these groups.
You may get unusual spots, blisters or ulcers on any part of your body plus muscle aches, a fever, headache, chills and exhaustion and swollen glands. Monkeypox is usually mild and most people recover within a few weeks without treatment.
If you have any concerns please contact your nearest clinic by phone.
If you are eligible for the vaccine and live in Kirklees, you can book an appointment online.
PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is medication that you take to stop yourself getting HIV. You can take it either every day or before and after sex.
It is extremely effective at stopping HIV infection and is available free on the NHS.
