The Brunswick Centre

Prevention Work

The Prevention team forms part of the Brunswick Centre. There are a number of key elements of the service targeting HIV prevention work at communites at increased risk of infection, including,

Staff work to inform, empower and give support to individuals from these at-risk communites to prevent HIV transmission. Using a community development model, individuals are encouraged to be actively involved in the identification and definition of the needs of their own communities.

The team promote safer sex and ensure that individuals are effectively targeted and have access to the latest information about HIV/AIDs and sexual health, and the resources to adopt safer sex practices. The team seeks to redress the health and social inequalities experienced by these target groups.

The Prevention team at the Brunswick Centre works with its national strategic partners, the Community HIV/AIDs Prevention Strategy (CHAPS) and the National African HIV Prevention Programme (NAHIP), to reduce the incidence of HIV within these communities. The national partners give strategic direction and evidence for the work to be delivered.
